‘These photographs were taken over a ten year period in different parts of the world. Without a pre-conceived plan of subject matter, the collection grow serendipitously. Whenever a scene of interest was chanced upon the picture would be taken, resulting in montages that reference the sublime and show humorous juxtapositions of ironic situations relevant in a world of both beauty and convenience’.
Stephen Walter’s photomontages present a humorous juxtaposition of unlikely elements to elevate ordinary scenes using dramatic skies and surreal landscapes. His work uses a range of media including drawing, photography, digital media, screen-printing, collage and painting. A contemporary artist, Stephen Walter graduated with a fine arts degree from London’s Royal College of Art in 2001. He divides his time between London and Berlin and is currently a Printmaking Fellow at the Royal Academy schools.
Walter’s work has been exhibited in the UK, USA, Australia, Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands and he has had numerous solo shows in London. His work is held in numerous private collections and in the collections of institutions such as The Victoria & Albert Museum, The British Museum, The British Library and The Houses of Parliament Museums.
